We have had a great first couple of weeks and are
off to a wonderful start. Here are a few things we have already
begun learning:
Phonics
In addition to the
letters (some consonants and all 5 vowels) already learned, we will
know the name, sound and picture for the following letters: Rr, Ff,
Jj, Kk, Vv, Ww, Yy, and Pp. With this, we will be sounding blends
and continue working with our one-vowel words.
We are READING one-vowel
words! Therefore, we just began reading circles. These small,
colorful books give the children incentive to work hard in reading.
The children can see their progress as they finish each book and
proudly take it home to read again and again.
Handwriting
We will continue learning
to properly write letters learned during phonics.
We will continue
connecting the letters learned into blends and finally words.
Numbers
We will begin counting to
1-4 0. We will begin counting by 10's to 100.
We will continue
recognizing and understanding the conept of numbers 1 - 12. This
will be done through a variety of activities of sorting and
matching.
We will continue learning
to write numbers and focusing on numbers 8 - 10.
Bible
We will contunue to focus
on presenting the Bible through the telling of the stories of the
Old and New Testaments. These Bible lessons will continue to be
taught through the lesson itself, memory verses, prayer time and
Bible hymns.
Classroom Habits
We will continue to
reinforce appropriate classroom habits and routines to ensure an
orderly classroom conducive to effective learning. All
children...Keep your eyes on the Green. We will continue to use the
"traffic light" as a positive behavior reinforcer.
